SENIOR DESIGN SHOWCASE: Tues, 5/17

You are cordially invited to the 2016 Cal Poly Senior Design Showcase where 20 teams present in a poster session their final design for this year's project.

Date: Tue 5/17
Time: 6-8pm
Location: ATL (bldg 007), Cal Poly

Light snacks and drinks will be provided.
Metered parking is located in Lot H2 close to the ATL (Advanced Tech Labs).

This year's project was the redevelopment of the existing Cal Trans lots at the corner of S. Higuera and Madonna into the SLO Convention Center with a Parking Structure and a creek side park that is the terminus of the Bob Jones Trail.

Some of the interesting technical hurdles the students had to address:
  • site elevation below the 100 yr flood elevation,
  • two lots on either side of Madonna that had to be integrated into one project
  • complex two way traffic flow adjacent to 101 on/off ramps,
  • poor foundation soils and proximity to the creek,
  • requirements of high density space and parking to accommodate convention center needs,
  • requirements for a 3 acre park that ties into the Bob Jones trail,
  • preservation of historic structures and heritage trees,
  • price points of $400/sf for convention center and $65/sf for the parking structure,
  • envisioning a gateway facility to the city,
  • etc...

Come celebrate the end of their 3 quarters of Senior Design (CE465/466/467), provide feedback on their designs, and answer questions about their future in Civil Engineering.

Best
